I agree Speedy. The last couple tours have been very repetative. Too High needs to go. The ETS tour had some newer things, Maddest Hatter, ETS and they worked well. Reb kicked ass that year. I saw them 3 times that year and it was a blast, even the shortened summer sets with Poison(I left 2 songs into Poison's set). I'd love to hear some more HTP songs. Still I'm Sad and Don't Bring Me Down would work. I guess we'll have to wait and see. Either way, I'm there in the trenches. Peace, Mike
i like the live CD although it should be called 1983!Not sure who to blame for the marketing. i think the dead give away was when i saw the song Live To Rock on there. Didn't that song used to be called "We're Illegal" back in '81/82. At least it is on the Beat Club show. And the song Going Down was on the George Lynch Anthology that came out a couple of years ago and it is the studio version that was recorded during the Tooth And Nail sessions. And alot of those songs on the live record were songs from George's old band band Exciter. Wounded Bird records put out that CD in 2005. Check it out.
Interesting mention during the onstage banter on this cd about the 'Breaking the Chains video on MTV'...in 1981...hmmmm... (yes, I realize that MTV did start broadcasting 8-1-1981, but really) - this whole timeline thing has me stumped as to why the 1981 date is used...I am really bothered by it for some reason.
That said, really enjoying the CD! Excellent sound quality and interesting tunes. Glad that it was found, cleaned up and released - thanks Don!
If Pilson is playing on the CD then no way no how is this show from 1981. Pilson joined Dokken in 1983. I think the Conception 1981 thing is just a play on words because that was the year that Dokken signed their first record deal and officially became Dokken. I do not necessarily believe that the show was actually performed in 1981. This recorded show was at the end of the Breaking the Chains tour when Pilson joined the band in 1983.
Hey ejk55, check out this thread p094.ezboard.com/fjeffpil...=249.topic Jeff gives a little light on the subject. It seems like there are quite a few of us that think it's quite shitty for it to be called Conception 1981 when it was NOT 1981 when it was recorded. Jeff sticks up for Don on the subject though and thinks that we should give him credit for getting this out to us to enjoy. It is a damned good recording though. The whole band (yes even Don) sounded great. I just wished majority of Don's stage rants would have been edited out, than it would have been better.
I am glad that Jeff is on it. To me Jeff really made Dokken shine when he was in the band. Don does not even have a clue what a huge asset Jeff was to him.
SO Don is bad with dates huh? oh well... maybe he just assumed it was that old because of the track listings on the tape, who knows, none the less it's a great recording and i did it very much but was awsome of Jeff to Comment on the issue he rocks and I will always adore/admire him for the efforts he puts forth to try and sort and answers questions, he's a good man indeed
After listening to the album a few times I must say that I am not impressed with Lynch's playing whatsoever. Very sloppy and uncoordinated solo's. George has never had a reputation of being a very good live performer although he is top notch in the studio.
I just got the album a week ago. Love hearing the 3 new songs. I thought all 3 of them were good and unique. I had to listen to the studio recording of Nightrider to check on George's solo on that. I had to see if the Iron Maiden thing was in there. It wasn't. George blatantly copied either Adrian or Dave's solo on "Children of the Damned". It was chilling how similar it was. And since this show was in '83, George was the one influenced and not the other way around. I did think his playing was good overall.
Don's voice was top notch back then. Good tone and delivery. I don't think his interaction was that bad like one person stated. Jeez, this is a live album. The lead singer always does this where he gets them to sing or tells a little bit about a song and stuff. It is a bit ridiculous to signal out Don for this. I would take this interaction any day over the 15-20 minute songs that Peter Frampton did on his famous live album.
I wouldn't mind one of the 3 new old songs to be put in the setlist for their upcoming tour. That would be cool. Not going to happen, but I can dream. And they better release this album in September. No more delays!! Symphony X and Dokken are testing my patience with their delays.

totally agree, George's solo is very sloppy and after listening to Neely's show to find out the guitars aren't live on BFTE, I expected that, but I'm still crushed by it too
After letting "Dokken from Conception - Live 1981" soak in a bit, I'm happy to say that I'm very impressed. I normally pass on live albums, one exception being those from Dokken. The band's energy that has been captured is truly exciting to hear. Don & co. did an excellent job cleaning up the original old tape. An impressive recording!
I am from Spain, and I dind't exist in 1981 yet, but I love this new CD, my favourite songs are the old ones of Dokken so I really wellcome this live and rare album, specially Breaking the Chains song, that rocks!!
Thank you for publishing it, a really great idea for those people like me that we missed those great years
Yeah, it's too bad the date is wrong on the album. And it's too bad they're saying Pilson played on this since he didn't. Plus, it's hard to imagine Dokken really even needing another new live album at this point, they've sure released a lot fo them and they're never going to be able to top Beast From The East, ya know?
However, the three 'new' tunes: Goin' Down/Hit And Run/Liar, make it well worth it. (Well, Liar wasn't really 'new' since it was on Back In The Streets, but it's still a good tune.)
Whether it's from '83 or '81, this thing has great sound on it.
