This isn't The Beatles where there is any musical or financial significance to reforming in its original form. Fact is, Dokken (the band) wouldn't play any more or larger venues with Lynch and Pilson. The music would be no stronger.....personally, the first 4 classic CD's are great but I like the non-Lynch Dokken of latter years better. Jon has established himself "the guitarist" of Dokken, can deliver on all of the classic material and bring great new material in. What makes this more silly in Lynch is touring and making more money with his own projects as captain of his own ship than a member of Dokken and Pilson is touring practically year round with Foreigner. NOW MICK?? If I were Don I'd bounce his happy ass right out the door! Talk about biting the hand that feeds you? Don is ok with Mick backing Ted up so Mick has plenty of dough so WTF is wrong with him and WHY would he betray the guy that took him back after siding with Lynch and Pilson years ago trying to restrict Don from using the DOKKEN name? Being a fan of Dokken and Lynch's solo projects and a musician myself this !@*# embarrasses me, the industry and the individuals and while I commend Don for having the class not to even acknowledge this grudge crap (that BTW won't stand on its own legs because 1/2 the new CD will be re-recorded Dokken classics....real balls there George/Jeff!!!) That's not to say I disagree with the rest, I just don't have enough info to formulate an opinion. It just seems silly and redundant. "Live to Rock",never get "Too High Too Fly", and you'll never have too many "Sleepless Nights"

Posts: 54 Feb 15 12 4:29 AM	The main thing I detest about this project is the vocalists being named, here. Ripper Owens? Sebastian Bach? I can only assume the dreaded Jeff Scott Soto will soon render his muppet-voice services to this project, thus cementing its eventual Wal-Mart bargain bin status. Ripper Owens, to be fair, is one of my favorite metal singers of all time. But as a Dokken singer? His powerful, operatic falsetto doesn't fit. If you're looking to replace a unique, melodic Metal vocalist like Don, you have to at least have the basic intelligence to replace him with a singer of like type. Someone like Göran Edman or Glenn Hughes, who that has that full-voiced, R&B-tinged vocal that helped set Dokken apart in a sea of Hair Metal clones.

Posts: 670 Feb 17 12 1:22 AM Back for the Attack	I believe that Ripper Owens did the vocals on "Kiss of Death", which would be a fairly good match for his singing style. I'm not real discerning about the choice of vocalists for this project; these guys are already mainstays on several cover albums and in that sense are a natural option to contribute to this kind of an album. The other half of the album is what amounts to Lynch/Pilson Volume 2, with Jeff on vocals exclusively. whether average or very good the double-album constitutes a fair amount of content for the modest asking price, and I'll be purchasing a copy in digital form, same method as Dokken releases. Since both Dokken and Lynch related solo albums are second-tier musical options to me I perhaps don't find all of this as important as some might.

If Jeff, George, and Mick want to make original music fine. But don't redo the original Dokken songs. It makes a joke of one of the greatest bands in metal. It is kind of like the Tooth and Nail band is like Spinal tap. A singer sells the band. Don is gifted with one of the most distinctive and greatest voices in Metal. You can't redo that. Don is a class act and has keep Dokken together through thick and thin! You can always replace a guitar player. But you can't replace The Voice! that launched the songs to the top of The Charts! Anyways, so excited for the real Dokken album coming out with Don!

He has a need to keep tapping into whatever there is left for him to try and make a dollar from his PAST . Don on the other hand will never cut Mick loose , they were together at the very beginning .I also agree that Jon Levin is THE guitarist , Now & 4 Ever .I also agree with Dokkengirl , leave the Dokken songs out & create something new with this band of brothers (backstabbers ) Edited 1 time by dokhead Feb 21 12 7:22 PM.

Anyways, so excited for the real Dokken album coming out with Don! Bingo. Replacing Don is a futile effort. There's so few vocalists that have the melodic edge to their voice that Don has. We all know he doesn't have the same range that he perhaps once did, although thankfully it seems to be improving of late (good for you, Don)... but even if all he could do was sing one note... he'd still have the unique, vibrato-laden vocal style that set Dokken apart in the '80s, at a time when everyone was trying to sound like a Halford clone. Is George a genius? Absolutely. One of the greatest guitarists to emerge from the '80s. But he isn't what made Dokken unique. You can hear dozens of '80s Metal bands with prodigy guitarists. It was Don's voice that sold the band. Period. Or, more specifically, it was George's heavier, prodigious guitar work (and here's the important part) standing in counterpoint to Don's melodic voice. Without that, it isn't Dokken and never will be. You can replace George's part in that balance. Jon Levin already has, and is doing a fantastic job at it. You can't replace the vocal part of that equation. It's like if Queen tried to replace Freddie Mercury. Not going to happen. Edited 1 time by RazorFist Feb 22 12 6:50 PM.

Posts: 670 Feb 23 12 1:48 AM Back for the Attack	Remove this ad I disagree with some of this; regardless of how Dokken loyalists feel about it, George, Jeff, and Mick are perfectly entitled to re-mix material that they had a significant role in creating, and it is not a big deal at all or really anything to grind an ax over. Did anyone cry foul when Don re-recorded Dokken hits without Jeff and George? No, and why would or should they, there is no written rule that states that the band has to be completely intact in order to re-record any of their previously written hits. George already did this once with a few Dokken songs on Lynch Mob/Revolution, which he has every liberty to do. That is almost like calling any cover album ever released an act of disrespect, it's just completely silly. As for the singer not being replaceable, AC/DC and Van Halen didn't have much of an issue with replacement singers and still having their new songs shooting to the top of the charts. I'm not the biggest fan of EVH or Van Halen in general, but could you have replaced him as easily as DLR and still enjoyed the same success? I really doubt it, as DLR's brief and forgettable solo career would seem to confirm. Bottom line is that there are times where a singer can be replaced without issue (Anthrax as an example, though I personally prefer Belladonna to Bush) and other times where it is more problematic. (Iron Maiden as an example, even though Bayley is a fine singer in his own right)

Posts: 670 Apr 2 12 11:49 AM Back for the Attack	It appears that they have modified the album last I read; looks like now instead of a double-album the project will be released in two separate volumes (volume 2 being released at a later time) with both having some of the covers and new material on the same disc. This could still be subject to change however that was the most recent news on the project as of the present.

Posts: 670 Apr 9 12 9:28 AM Back for the Attack	Kiss of Death sounded fairly true to the source material, I liked what I heard better than the LM Revolution version, which was just okay. The new track I couldn't really tell very much from the video, but it does appear that George is in a current state of mind to open fire on his solos, which is welcome. The video also confirmed my earlier post that the project will be released in two volumes.

I love Ripper Owens' voice, and it sounds like he's singing his guts out as usual, but once again, you've taken a song where the vocalist's melodic nuance was what elevated the song from the doldrums of generic speed metal... and made it just a generic speed metal tune. I really don't care for this T&N crap at all.
